From Nice, make your way up the soaring mountains to the medieval village of Èze. The village rests on a small mountain top and offers sweeping panoramic views that are simply unmatched. Here you will also find the Jardin Exotique (Exotic Garden). It's a must-visit destination for nature lovers, photography enthusiasts, instagram girlies and anyone looking to immerse themselves in the stunning beauty of southern France.

The botanical garden offers more than just a collection of exotic plants; it delivers a breathtaking experience with panoramic views, unique landscapes, and a tranquil atmosphere. If you're planning a trip to Èze, here's everything you need to know about this remarkable spot!

Why Visit the Jardin Exotique?

Èze is famous for its medieval charm, cobblestone streets, and incredible views of the Mediterranean. The Jardin Exotique stands out as an escape into the famous Riviera experience with dramatic landscapes and the tranquil beauty that draws visitors from around the world. While it is one of the most popular places to visit, can get crowded and it might need some planning to get there - it's 100% worth all the effort.

1. Breathtaking Views

The garden sits atop a cliff, offering a sweeping view of the Mediterranean coastline, the Cap-Ferrat peninsula, and the distant hills. From here, visitors can enjoy panoramic vistas that stretch all the way to Monaco and beyond. It’s the perfect place to snap some incredible photos and marvel at the natural beauty of the French Riviera.

2. Exotic Plant Collection

The garden features a rich collection of over 300 species of succulents, cacti, and other exotic plants, most of which thrive in the sunny, dry climate of the region. Wander through the various sections of the garden, each showcasing a diverse range of flora from around the world. Whether you’re a botany enthusiast or simply appreciate nature’s beauty, the garden is a sensory delight.

3. Historical Backdrop

The garden’s location on the ancient ruins of a medieval castle adds an extra layer of history to the experience. As you explore, you’ll encounter remnants of the old fortress, offering a glimpse into the past while being surrounded by the lush, vibrant present. The combination of history, nature, and stunning views creates an unforgettable atmosphere.

Crowds, Price & How To Get To Eze Gardens

If you've heard about Èze Village and the Exotic Gardens, you have probably also heard about the masses of tourists, cramped buses going up the mountain roads, and the hustle and bustle of peak season.

The rumours are true, but with careful planning you can experience this gem of the French Riviera. I promise, it's more than worth the effort!

So, here is all you have to know about visiting Eze Gardens:

1. Location & Getting There

Eze Village is located on a hilltop between Nice and Monaco. You can get there by bus from Nice which typically takes around 30 minutes, or the smaller towns of Villefranche Sur Mer, Beaulieu Sur Mer or Eze Sur Mer. All these towns are right on the coastline, and the bus will take you up the mountain.

Be sure to check the current bus schedules. Typically there are two different bus companies offering a connection to Eze: Lignes d'Azur and Zou!.

Note that Eze Sur Mer where also the train stops, is the coastline town of Eze. From here you can hike up to the mountain town Eze Village. However, take into account that the hike is long (might take more than 1,5h one way) especially in the summer heat.

2. Crowds & Best Time To Visit

Eze is a popular spot to visit, and turns into a tourist trap in peak season. The best time to visit the Jardin Exotique is in spring or autumn, when the weather is mild, and the plants are in full bloom. Summer can be quite hot, and the garden is busier with tourists, so if you prefer a quieter experience, consider visiting in the shoulder seasons.

During the summer months, I'd recommend heading there as early as possible to avoid the crowds and to experience the garden at its most peaceful. During midday in peak season you might not even be able to catch the bus going there due to crowds of tourists.

Arriving first thing in the morning also allows you to enjoy cooler temperatures before the midday heat sets in, making it a more comfortable and enjoyable visit.

3. Admission Fees

The price varies in and out of the tourist season. Be sure to check the updated information!

From April to October Adults 7€ / Students 4€ / Free for children under 12

Tickets are available on-site. For families, groups, or extended visits, discounts may be available.

4. Accessibility

Due to its location on the cliffs of Èze, the garden is not easily accessible for those with mobility issues. There are steep paths and stairs, so visitors should be prepared for a bit of uphill walking.
